"When a musician "knocks on my door" and inquires about entertaining our residents I can now send them to David's program and be sure they present music in a thoughtful way that accounts for their unique circumstances, maximizing their enjoyment. As a certified music therapist, David shares his training and many years of experience with other musicians. And, when musicians can show me the course completion certificate from David's program, it helps me feel confident that the music activities we provide for our residents will be beneficial and enriching."

"This video education program for musicians, new to extended care facilities, offers many "tips" on how to best utilize music, i.e., to tap into memories for our elders which helps maximize the benefit of the live music performance. Not being a music expert myself, nor having the time to devote to such a task, it is one less thing for me to worry about, but also ensures the best use of our facilities' resources."

  MFTS
and David Putano's second album titled
Lyrical Imagery is a collection of relaxation
and stress management pieces. Because
we build associations so easily, music
that elicits beautiful imagery and emotions
can provide an effective, anticipated
experience to symbolize and assist with
sleep for children and parents. Play it
everynight and see how your children will
quickly associate the music with bedtime.

About Lyrical Imagery... Typically relaxation
music consists of instrumental music or
music with nature sounds. And typical
relaxation exercises such as imagery or
progressive muscle relaxation consist
of, again, instrumental music with (or
without) nature sounds with spoken imagery
or directives. "With Lyrical Imagery
I use sung imagery (lyrics) that utilize
right and left hemispheres of the brain.
The imagery here is about the ocean, on
top of the mountain, snow, etc."

about Lyrical Imagery in the Resource
Center - MT Lyrical Imagery 1, 2 and 3.

"A definition of music therapy that
I have always focused on is: Music Therapy
– using music for non-musical goals.
Very simply, when I for example am playing
guitar, supporting a child playing a keyboard,
the goal is not to make beautiful music.
The goal(s) might be to exercise fine
motor coordination, or to demonstrate
taking of turns, etc. If beautiful music
is made that is “icing on the cake.”
With this in mind I have written music
that I provide in the music therapy group
classes."
